Black Sox walk away with Wood Bat crown

NorCal club defeats IBAC of Sacramento to win the 12-team Playa Vista international tournament title. By David Saunders Plate discipline was the difference for the NorCal Baseball Black Sox in their 5-3 comeback win over IBAC of Sacramento in the Playa Vista International Wood Bat Series final Tuesday at the MLB Urban Youth Academy at Compton College.
The Black Sox drew eight walks, including four in a four-run fifth inning that saw them take their first lead. "We try to be a patient team and hit our pitch," Black Sox coach Tony Crivello said. "Through the first four innings we were not patient. I've got to give credit to my guys for making the adjustment and going back to what got us here.
IBAC starter Chris Syers held the Black Sox in check through the first four innings, but was relieved by Dillon Lapsys (0-1) in the bottom of the fifth inning after two walks. Lapsys struggled to find the plate and walked in the Black Sox's first run.
"It was almost an impossible situation," IBAC coach Gary Powers said.......
